This is pretty cool: you can enter the countries/states you've been to and they'll print out a map of your travels!
U.S. News ran this cartoon this week. While it's hilarious, it's also very sad. I saw Munich this week, and the movie did a very good job of raising questions about the cost of fighting terrorism. As Spielberg says in the intro to the film, he's not looking to give answers, just raise questions. And they are scary questions. In one scene you see a strike force have to fire at a man who's basically using his wife as cover while shooting at the intruders. Both are killed and, as the force withdraws, the camera focuses on the face of the teen-age son. The phrase that ran through my mind was, "today's war orphans are tomorrow's terrorists." This doesn't mean we shouldn't fight terrorism--we have to oppose it somehow--it just raises very grave concerns about what it means to "win" in a war against terrorism.
So, I go back to work tomorrow after a fun-filled summer. We hiked the Grand Canyon last week w/ our neighbors who live below us (Erik was Currie's roommate at Covenant). It was grueling and sweaty, but we saw some amazing views! We did 7 miles the 1st day and camped at Cottonwood; hiked 3 miles to Ribbon Falls the 2nd day; and then hiked the 7 miles straight uphill the 3rd day. We descended/ascended 4500 feet!!

My first view of the Canyon was at sunrise!

Check out that sheer drop off.

I think this is called "dragging," not "hiking." :)
